Better World Club - The Greener Alternative to AAA

Better World Club is the nation’s only socially responsible, environmentally friendly roadside assistance and travel club. It strives to balance its members’ transportation needs with their desire to protect the environment. The Club has a unique policy agenda among auto clubs, supporting the attempts of states to better regulate automobiles to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses.

BWC further distinguishes itself from other auto clubs in many ways, including but not limited to devoting 1% of revenues to environmental cleanup and advocacy, offering the nation’s only bicycle roadside assistance program, and offering eco-travel and hybrid car rental discounts.

Re: Better World Club - The Greener Alternative to AAA

I’ll start by saying I work for AAA, and over the years we’ve seen articles that try to mislead good people about AAA’s environmental record.

So let me clarify AAA's position for you: AAA has supported mass transit/public transportation, clean air and recycling programs for years (get the details here: http://bit.ly/AAAenviro and here http://bit.ly/VyLQh). AAA also promotes eco-tourism and the reduction of auto emissions. You should note that when AAA supports a well built, safer transportation infrastructure this includes public transportation, pedestrians and cyclists. No one is left out. Find out more at http://www.AAAMakingAmericaStronger.com.

About auto emissions: AAA is in favor of finding alternative fuels, reducing vehicle congestion and reducing auto emissions. Some ideas, such as E15, have been proposed that sound great but could have a negative impact on vehicles (find out more here: http://bit.ly/NYYIe) and cost vehicle owners dearly for repairs. More research needs to be done on the long-term potential consequences of an increased ethanol blend in gasoline on vehicle engine performance, fuel efficiency and emissions. But when AAA encourages due diligence on these proposals, it gets vilified by some.

I know there is one motor club that uses environmental issues as a marketing ploy to get people to join, but AAA stands on its record of supporting safety issues for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. You can find out more about AAA’s safety advocacy efforts (also known as lobbying) here: http://www.AAA.com/publicaffairs.

If I joined and needed your services could I request a tow by a team of Percherons? If not, a personal tow by Mariusz Pudzianowski. auto insurance

Re: Better World Club - The Greener Alternative to AAA

The Better World Club's aim is simple-to have better and environment-friendly cars that will benefit both the society and the environment, that's why they tend to promote EVs and hybrids, and not to forget cars with auto parts that are made of environment-friendly materials.

    That'd be green.

    Shame on you Better World

I was a member at BWC and loved the fact that I could support a club that actually cared about the environment... I was telling everyone I knew - I thought it was such a great thing! So I bought the premium service and cancelled my AAA, which I'd had for years... and a long time went by with me just loving and touting the benefits of BWC. Then one day I needed to use my service - no problem, then a few months later I had to use it again, and then shortly after, I had to use it again... so it was a string of bad luck for me, but imagine my surprise when, during my last call, a supervisor came on the line and told me he was exercising his right to cancel my membership because I had used too many services in too short a period of time. Never mind that I had something like 5 services left, or that I didn’t use any service calls for a long time before that… I was cancelled, no ifs ands or buts. Now this was completely out of the blue... I had paid all my bills on time; I wasn't having a difficult time with anyone... I was in the middle of a nice pleasant experience with customer service when this guy picked up the line and told me I was cancelled. I was stunned, and all I could do was ask why, after all the time and money I had spent, and given my current bank of services, they would cancel my account. This young guy simply and arrogantly explained that if I continued to use all my services each year they could not remain profitable. Unbelievable. Now since this happened I've gone back to AAA and have not used a single service and don’t plan to, but at least I know that if I need to use the services I'm actually paying for, I won't have to worry about losing my roadside assistance. Shame on you Better World. You turned an ardent and vocal fan into a very unhappy (and still vocal) supporter of your competition. Supporting the environment is supposed to be a bonus in addition to good, reliable service, not a substitute for them.

Re: Better World Club - The Greener Alternative to AAA

I became a Better World member this last month. I researched the heck out of them, bugged them w/ a lot of questions, ("I don't want to wait hours for help. How many tow companies are affiliated with you in this very rural area?" ) and they had all the right answers.( "3." I was happily surprised.) They were extremely polite and helpful with my inquiries.

I am soooooo glad not to be w/ AAA any more. NEVER liked their lobbying postions but...needed to be sure I wouldn't be stuck somewhere.

Great alternative and I am recommending to all my friends..."green" or otherwise.

    I love it!

It is amazing that people can get so creative with how to help the cause that we're all intersted in. I've not been a fan of AAA either but in the past felt that I had no alternative - I love that not only is Better World Club an alternative but it one that provides some benifit rather than just taking our money! I will check out what you're doing and will plan on signing up - thanks for doing your part Better World Club!!!

    Thanks for the kudos

    Thanks for the kudos Billy!

Though we've never met before, Billy, we love you too. And you know what, we're even willing to jump up and down on Oprah's couch and shout it out to the world!

Now that we've the "mushy" stuff out of the way, let's talk business. The creative idea to start BWC came from founders Mitch Rofsky and Todd Silberman, two Ohio boys who first met in cub scouts many, many, many, many, many years ago. This sounds like a good idea. I personally am not a big fan of AAA - aside from being rude, they definitely could care less about the environment. I definitely will consider your firm as soon as my AAA membership expires. One question, are you thinking about branching out into the insurance world as well. That would be a great compliment to your product.
