    COAL bad fossil fuel

carbon offsets will make older dirty power like coal very expensive. It is already quite expensive but the costs are hidden and it has goverment subsidies. This topic will cover dirty old fashioned coal. Many people don't know about all the pollution this type of fuel makes. Some also don't know the USA still makes over 50% of our electricity using this fuel.

Some still think it's cheap and don't realize it gets big subsidies and that is why many power companies still use it so much. Water is also very valuable and coal uses a lot of water.

A few talk about new clean coal processes that are much better than old ways of using it but it still needs to be mined, transported and burned. There are scrubbers that can be put on the smoke stacks but most utilities don't do this unless that are forced to. In fact they expand older coal plants to avoid having to make clean power.

    Re: COAL bad fossil fuel

I invite all on this site, including myself to go without any energy to stall coal from consuming us all, apparently.

    Clean Coal Power

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) are the part of the Clean Coal Technology and designed to trap CO2 emissions from power plants and heavy industry, is seen as a possible silver bullet in the fight against climate change, but it has not yet been proven on an industrial scale.

    Clean Coal Power

When burnt, coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels but a range of methods – called clean coal technology (CCT) – is being developed to reduce environmental impact of coal-fired power stations.

The most important of these is carbon capture and storage (CCS), a process designed to trap carbon dioxide, preventing greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere, and storing it deep underground. A range of methods have proved technically feasible but have yet to be shown to be economically viable on a large scale.

That's nice [pats poster on head]...

So what are you willing to *pay* for the clean technology, or father the energy created from the clean technology?

Look at the adjacent thread Zero Emission Coal - What would you pay and add something useful.

Fact is, people like to whine about cleaner energy, but when push comes to shove the clean alternatives are starving because all the support dries up when the bill comes.

The greenhouse gas emissions should clean-up otherwise the environment can be damaged. So,the new technology called as"Clean Coal Techology" which can clean the emissions and control the acid rains and send them back to underground.

The U.S government spend more cost to build theplants to clean the carbon gas emissions .

coal is so last century. It makes me think of the Flintstones and very dirty air.

50% of it is used to power the USA. That is very sad. We can do so much better.

    Re: COAL bad fossil fuel

I've just read the book This moment on Earth by John Kerry. It tells how existing laws haven't been enforced . The clear air act shows over 900 power plants in violation and could clean up their emissions but the Busk 1 and 2 as well as Regan exempted them and won't force the to clean up.

What a waste of clean air and lives because of a few bad men who don't wan tot clean up the waste. We need strong leaders willing to pay the cost of being clean and help us all save in the long run.

    This is a shame.
