Actually, this salad dressing just might be less tasty to the wee beasties that do so much damage.

 As you mentioned, moisture is the culprit. That's why creosote soaked pine trees worked so well as telephone poles & railroad ties.

When I was a kid I convinced my father to let me boil the end of a fence post in paraffin wax.  We planted it in '72, and in '97 it was still untouched by decay... 10 years later and it's still showing no sign of it's age...

The only other supports that have shown the same durability have been the 2" steel pipes in concrete.

Soy oil isn't paraffin, but if the additives can keep the oil from moving and allow it to polymerize, if could stay there almost as long as the wax.
