Green Talk

green unintended consequences

I am seeing in the media that biofuel production is effecting world food supplies. Couldn't that have been predicted? What other alternative energy sources are we funding and pursuing that will have similarly unintended consequences?

Homemade Laundry Powder

I've found a recipe for a homemade laundry detergent. I'm wondering if it is environmentally friendly. I think it is most likely wallet friendly, but not worth it if it is toxic. The ingredients: borax, washing soda, and grated soap bar such as Fels Naptha, Zote, hard castile or Ivory. I've read conflicting reports as to the earth-friendliness of it and since I'm new to the whole environmental scene and starting with baby steps, I could use some advice here.

Food Prices Up - A Result of Biofuels?

I saw an interesting article on CNN today that discusses the rising cost of food as a result of the farmers switching to growing food for biofuels rather than for food.  This appears to be a hot topic with my friends that are not particularly supportive to green efforts.  They and this article suggest that millions of people will starve as a result of switching the focus to biofuel growing rather than food.  I'm curious what you all think.

Free Earth Fix - Ed's Book

I've got 10 copies of Ed's book left over from a book signing I just did for my book Considering SomeplacElse.  (Ed and Bucky Fuller's books help to bring traffic into my booth).

In honor of earth day I'm sending them out absolutely free to the first ten people to request one by sending an email to BL@SoIWroteThisBook.com

Huge Antarctic ice chunk collapses

Is this the beginning of what eco-scientists have been saying, a cyclical change, or something else?

Holigent

To all,

I spoke with Nicholas Frank yesterday for two hours about his Holigent project.

As a "sustainable" village designer myself, I arrived at the conclusion that Nicholas is a wise and educated man, dedicated to the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Take some time and give him and his project a serious look.

Will Global fresh water be shortage in 20 years?

Liquid freshwater, which is used as the primary supply of drinking water, constitutes a very small fraction of the water on the planet.

Due to issues like climate change, poorly managed water usage, agricultural irrigation practices, and population growth, the sustainability of water resources has now become an important issue globally.

Condemnation of an advertizer!!!

When I logged in this afternoon I was greeted with a banner ad for a SCAM. It was one of those run your car on water ads, and I thought I was going to lose my lunch.

Please, please, please. Will the owners/operators of the board please refuse garbage from sponsors like this.

It cheapens the board, and is makes all the good works here look questionable by association.

Brown's Gas is a scam, it's a lie, it's a waste of time, it's a waste of effort, and a lie!
