global warming can be reduced by trees

I also just signed up to donate a small amount each month so my utility can replant trees after the forest fires in Northern Arizona. It helps hold the soil, clean the air and makes the environment more stable.
Trees are a great resource. Imagine if evenyone would replant 10 trees for any 1 they cut down like the native Americans used to do. If everyone did that for their Christmas tree it would add up.
We got another small live tree this year, and will plant it outside soon.

I've seen numbers on the environmental impact of whole countries and I see that conservation etiquet is taught to individuals but I am not aware of numbers associated with "cities".
If we knew that, per capita, a particular city created less environmental impact than another I might know what an environmentally sustainable city actually looks like.
Patchwork fix ups are not going to work. For every individual who plants a tree or shuts the light off when he goes to work, another individual will spend his raise on a backyard hot tub or bigger SUV.
Athena, you may be interested in an article and film about how Cuba radically changed its system of agriculture after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Today, an estimated 50 percent of Havana's vegetables come from inside the city, while in other Cuban towns and cities, urban gardens produce from 80 to more than 100 percent of what they need. Cuba was also forced to come up with innovative solutions for transportation and health care. Cuba is not perfect. It is not a democracy, and it has its share of other problems. It has, however, taken some remarkable steps in recent years in terms of making its cities sustainable.

We've all heard about global warming and the devastating effects in places with glaciers.

I've also be told that if we planted lots of trees in the farm belt of America it could help cool and even out the temperatures. Sounds like Johnny appleseed had it right all along. Imagine the difference plants could make all over the USA.
In Chicago and many other areas they have green roof programs. This could help reduce the heat island affect big cities have.
We also need to reduce the many miles of black asphalt roads. Right here in Arizona ASU developed some white road topping with reduced heat. That seems pretty simple and smart to me in hot areas. Maybe it would lead to road icing in the north.
What do you think we could do to help ?
