Technology can help us to make things easy. Because of technology transportation and communication is never impossible and very accessible. However, I just hope that with our technology today someone would invent a particular thing that would detect the occurrence of natural disaster. Devastation, it's what you observe soon after a tornado passes through a city; that is precisely what Mississippi and Alabama saw this last weekend. They were struck with a total that could reach over 40 individual tornados, one was an EF4, (the second most robust tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale) leaving behind it piles of trash where once were residences. Reports are saying 10 people have died as a result of these tornados; and over 100 homes are no longer livable. Natural disasters are some of the saddest to discover, they do so much damage in such a small amount of time.

Can mobile phones prevent wasted trips ?, Can they help someone who is lost and could use lots of fuel to find their way when some info could direct them quickly and efficiently ?

Like most things they can be used or abused. It's YOU the user who decides if it will be wasted or used and abused.

My plan offered a free new phone. I kept the old one since it's works, won't be thrown out and I take car of it. This way it will stay productive for a long long time. I also don't use it unless I have to. When I do I keep it as short as possible. If I'm driving(my bicycle) I stop until the call is done.
