DREAM CARS Concept Cars , real and not so real

I just got a book from Barnes and Noble , bargain clearence of course ,that is called Dream Cars. It lists the many concept cars over the years from major automakers all over the world. It gives a few details on over 150 vehicles.
It is very interesting to see how a few companies think big fast powerful cars are the future concept and others have small efficient vehicles.
One that looked very efficient was the FIAT 500. The very next week I saw that Car and Driver profiled how FIAT was in trouble with money sold off some parts and now has money to build cars for the new market and return to profitability. One car they picked is the FIAT 500. It will only be in Europe for now but could come to the US in a year or two. Like the Mini Cooper they see small is big.
There are a few that were all electric and some hybrids that just never got build. It seems like now is the time a few of these ideas could become real.
In the world gas costs about $7 a gallon. In the USA we subsidise big oil and fossil fuels. If we would just stop giving Billion dollar money to big oil that just made Billions in profits the USA would build more efficient vehicles.
The USA has the lowest fuel economy rating for new cars of any industrialized contry in the world. We have to wake up and learn it's a global world and we have to compete and be cleaner.

Please don't wait for our government to change the rules and force higher standards. We the people can make the change today. Get another vehicle used or new that is double the efficiency of the one you drive now. Drive less. Car pool. Drive smarter with combines trips and slower speeds. Make the changes in your world that you want to see and others will follow.

Be the solution not the problem. Together we can make a big difference no matter what the government standards are. We have to set our standards. Make yours high. Stop dreaming and act.

Re: DREAM CARS Concept Cars , real and not so real

rwells,

Note that many of the new batteries last a very long time. In the RAV4 EVs that have been is use for over 10 years and 100,000 miles none have replaced the battereis. They used NiMH type battereis.  Some of the new lithium battereis may come with 200,000 mile warrenties. The Altairnano batteries are talking about that type of life. We will see as they start coming out this year.

The Tesla , Phoenix Motorcars and eEbox are all out in 2008. I can't wait.

Even the hybrid batteries in many hybrids like the Prius are seeming 300,000 miles and still going. It a whole new battery world and it's great.

Totally agree that there is no incentive...But the people have the power if they just wake up..I personnaly would buy...like the Lotus..styling..in a heart beat if the proce was right...40k would be right up my alley for that vehicle..large enough and stylish and I like the concept behind it..good going ZAP-X--Lotus..Just get the proce down so you can flood the market and put a crimp in the oil boozos..and car makers a like that don't get it or have a deal with the oil companies...and they do..and keep watch how they make the vehicles for charging or battery replacements..little I gotch's.. the
