Need battery information
I always wondered where that little piece of fiction came from... I always thought it was a joke... you know like gullible not being in the dictionary.
35 years, Wow! Like somebody with the need to be seen in as useless a vehicle as an H3 is goung to keep it for even 3.5 years...
The article points out that the damage of a statement like that is done, so hard to un-ring a bell... But I seriously doubt the lie actually convinced anyone on either side of the aisle to change their mind.
Some jokes are just funnier than others.

One of the majors did a bad thing when they didn't honor the warranty on their batteries, but I believe that it's been settled. The batteries are still the weakest link in the drivetrain, but they are getting better. Here's the thing, if you have a budget for either the H3 or the Prius, the Prius will end up costing you a fraction of the H3 over it's lifetime. As long as it does the job you need, then it's the wiser choice.
As I mentioned above, I don't thing the facts (or the fiction) had a snowball's chance of altering the decision of a potential car buyer. The choices are just so far apart that no meaningful comparison is possible.
Some jokes are just funnier than others.

A Hummer makes more pollution just being made than a Prius. It has huge tires with tons of steel and eats gas like it was a saudi step child. The pollution it makes is more than 4 cars.
All prius batteries are NiMH type and get recycles. Most last for 300,000 miles. The new lithium batteries planned for future models are EPA non toxic and could be put in the weekly trash but they will also get recycles.
The report, produced by CNW Marketing Research, Inc., finding that the Hummer is more efficient than the Prius is seriously flawed and biased. It erroneously assumes that the average Hummer will last 35 years and travel 379,000 miles, while the average Prius will last less than 12 years and travel only 109,000 miles.

When my husband mentioned that we were planning to purchase a Prius, he got this response from a retired Mobil/Exxon employee: "Well, you know that the battery in a Prius pollutes more than the BIG Hummer." Can someone give me facts/figures to refute this type comeback? Thanks.
