The Real Estate "Green Washing Machine"

The new green building is catching on here in Arizona. This was actually started in Austin Texas and they still lead the country.
One local builder offers gray water sytems on all homes they build. They also make very efficient buildings Ecreat block. This is airated concreate block that has R valuses of 20 and they use SIPS. System Integrated Panels that give roofs R40 or higher ratings. These materials are also termite proof and emit less toxic checmicals than old plywood and press board.
They use low VOC matterials for panit and floor finished too so you don't breath fumes and chemicals all day. If you want solar PV or solar hot water they build that in too.
A few realtors and large home builders are starting to see the value in this option. Most are in places like San Diego but it has to start someplace.
What great choices to have. Every home and company should be bulit this way. Our buildings create and use 60% of the pollution in the world. Imagine if they were all efficient.

One must note that not all "green" homes are really green. It seems that the trendy word used now is "green" and with the current real estate market softening everywhere, realtors, developers and homeowners are getting "creative" with words that might help draw attention to their home(s) for sale.
We at Listed Green call this the real estate "green washing machine". Listed Green battles this problem by two ways.
1) By only listing green, energy efficient, sustainable homes and developments (worldwide)
2) By personally reviewing each listing to ascertain that they are green and energy efficient.
We like to see a least a couple of innovative, energy saving components in homes. Some have more than others. One of the important ways that we as a planet can really make a difference in our carbon footprint of daily living, is to implement energy saving and resource saving products in our homes overall construction and it's living environment.
Here are a few starters:
Remember, homeowners and developers can make a huge impact on our environment, by making wise choices in building and remodeling our homes. And now they can really showcase these homes in an internet platform that embraces innovative, energy efficient technologies.
