Town rebuilds green
Given a blank sheet and limited budget it will be interesting to see how much of what is available gets "shared". Energy efficiency goes along with management efficiency and political efficiency ........ Will all the religious groups share a church?...... Will the town hall be used for square dancing on Mondays and movies every night of the week?..... Will everyone be happy with the chosen type of vehicle for the car pool?......Will the exhaust from the bakery heat the community greenhouse or swimming pool?......Will they build bigger houses for the rich and famous?......Will the noisey windmill get built near the subsidized housing and supply energy benefits to everyone equally or just the people who can afford it?.....And once this place gets built, could Britney Spears buy a house there?
I'm sure they will... you might be interested in out "model homes" project, designed to become "bed and breakfasts". Each home will showcase different designs, technologies, and products, and will serve as a “living science museum” both for residents and visitors.
How apropos! "Greensburg" = "Green city". Pardon my double entendre.
I'd imagine that with the opportunity to start fresh there will be a lot of improvements to the town's infrastructure.
I hope that in a few years someone will revisit the town and perhaps make their "LEED" balance sheets public so the rest of the world can see how well it really works.

On the night of May 4, 2007, an EF-5 tornado, close to 2 miles wide, wiped out 95% of Greensburg, Kansas.
After the cleanup started, the Greensburg City Council approved a resolution that all city building projects will be built to LEED Platinum level standards. This makes Greensburg, Kansas the first city in the United States to do this. Greensburg is being rebuilt as a Green Town.
Greensburg Greentown is a non-profit organization created to help Greensburg residents, and others, learn about green building, and green living. We have lots of information, both on green issues and on the happenings and progress of Greensburg. I'd like to share our link with you all - http://www.greensburggreentown.org/. We'd appreciate any help we can get to get the word out about what Greensburg, Kansas is doing!

If this small farming community in Kansas can do this, any town or city in America can! We want to be an example for other communities, especially those facing rebuilding after storm damage!
