Truly Fixing The Planet

rawmarcos
Hey Folks,
Just came off a rocking good time from AR2008 and one of the most memorable videos that was shown is available on the web. First, I want you to know that I am a truly peaceful person and am not preacy about my diet. However, this video puts so much into perspective that I think you'll understand my message today. We're all so concerned about changing the lightbulb, recycling, buying fair trade, using our own bags, driving less, etc. But did you ever think how all of these things are connected. Well a book by Karen Dawn called Thanking The Monkey does it in book form. It's a fun, non-preachy, easy read about rethinking the way we treat our fellow beings.
As for the video, well here it is. Please take twelve minutes out of your day to watch. I think this is the one small thing everyone can do to save the planet.
Peace & Blessings,
Marcos

Re: Truly Fixing The Planet

There is truely no need to fix the planet.  To quote the late, great Carlin:

The planet will be fine -- it's the people that are f@#!$!@#'d

And of course a significant portion of the flora & fauna (cockroaches apparently will be fine).

We need to fix ourselves, in order to save ourselves.  Put in the 'save yer own butt' perspect you get a broader appeal...

Yes, the planet will be fine...  orbiting the sun merrily for another 5 billion years.  I have no issue with the sentiment, but I will do it for my betterment.  If more folks would acknowledge that simply premise...

And for Sept 11...

America the Beautiful -- by George Carlin

Oh beautiful for smoggy skies, incesticided grain.

For strip mined mountains majesty, above the asphalt plain.

America, America, man sheds his waste on thee.

And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea.

jstack,
We're both on the same wavelength. Unfortunately, our society has become so disconnected from the animals and mother earth that it will take a short video like the one above to reconnect people to why this planet needs changes. Thanks for your thoughtful post. It is my hope maybe a few more people may read our conversation and watch the video or even revisit it and something will click.
Peace & Blessings,
Marcos

Re: Truly Fixing The Planet

Excellent post.

If people are worried about energy, the food we eat can be 10 times less energy intensive by chosing the right diet.

If some worry about water the food we choose can take 100 times less than the typical diet.

If they are worried about thier own health the choice is very clear.

There are so many great reasons to consider what we eat. That is why my wife and I are vegan. It makes a big difference.
