Re: Universal Plug for Electric Cars Unveiled

I've learned Europe uses 400 volts at 50 hz for many business locations. Homes are 230 volts. So it's simple and easy for everyone if these picked 230 volts as the standard.

In the US our new J-1772 will do 240 volts which many have for dryers and electric ranges. The vehicles also have a 120 volt option which is available every place.

Now we just need to be sure people remember to charge Off Peak times so we don't overload the GRID or add loads that require new power plants

The US standard is now the J-1772 plug. It can use 120 vac or 240 vac. I don't see how this 400 volt 'standard' will work even in Europe since they use 230 vac at 50 hz.
